There it was in Turtie's hand. The Book. The one book that Olxik had always heard of but never got the chance to read. Not that she was much of a reader, but she knew that this was supposed to be a special one. It was a small book with a simple red border and a sweet picture of a bear and a boy on the front. And here she was, standing in front of the one who'd happened to procure it: Turtie. She had happened to convince him with a cookie to let her take a look. He held it joyfully in his little green hands, yellow eyes glowing with the pride of having such a great burden to bear.
"Wow... can me and Exi hold it?" Olxik was sitting cross-legged on the floor across from Turtie. She reached out slowly, fingers itching to grasp the forbidden fruit.
"Sorry, Olxik! Xyliem told me to keep a good eye on it at all times. It can be really fragile! I've heard the pages tend to get scattered all over."
"Pft. She doesn't have to know, though! We'll be really careful, I promise!"
"Hmmm... I dunno!"
"I got lots more cookies, you know," Olxik said in an exaggerated whisper. She took a cookie out of her pocket and held it out for Turtie.
"Ooo!" Turtie nearly dropped the book on his way to handing it over to Olxik, grabbing the cookie and throwing it in his mouth.

These halls were endlessly boring. It must have been the third time he'd circled them. Back from one mission, waiting for another, and antsy in the interim, not satisfied with his usual hobbies, he had taken to aimless wandering. A terrible habit, really. Brought him into contact with all the other members who were out an about. Cheerful lot. Why did everyone smile so much? Someone said hello. He growled and kept walking, hands shoved in his pockets, not even aware who had been speaking to him.
In one of the quieter corridors he heard other voices. About done with this 'exercise', he was ready to turn tail and take shelter somewhere private, except that he smelled something familiar. The scent wafting out of the room ahead was a familiar one - Olxik's. Well... Maybe he could pop in for half a moment. She could say hi, he could growl. It'd be flawless social interaction, yes?
He ducked in to lean in the doorway, observing the goings on. The small green one was here. And they appeared to be having a book club meeting.

Olxik jumped at the sound of footsteps, nearly dropping the book. But when she turned and saw Raph, she sighed in relief. There was no way he'd tell on her, considering... he didn't exactly talk. Plus, he had made a delicious pie that one time and showed her some neat space ships, so he was alright by her. If what she had heard about this book was true, maybe she could return the favor for all the things he'd done with her in Montressor!
"Hey, Raph! Wanna come read with us?" Olxik jumped up, immediately forgetting that she wasn't really allowed to have the book in the first place. But Turtie was happily munching on his chocolate chip cookie, and she figured he would stay that way for some time.
"See? Look! It's a really neat book!" She held it up to his face, opening up to a random page so he could see the pretty illustrations. She struggled juggling Exi in one hand though, and found the pages hopelessly tossing and turning as the spine bent back just a little too far.

He recoiled - why was she coming so close? - but just managed not to turn tail and leave. The book was battered and looked old, the pages were a mess, and it looked like Olxik was about to drop it. He reached out to catch it, worried that such an heirloom might be damaged, only to be engulfed in a brilliant light emanating from the core of the book. And then he was gone. Simply vanished, without a trace.
He experienced a sensation of falling, as though he were tumbling head over heels down some unfathomable distance. Then the ground found his feet again and the swirling world at last came to a halt. He stared around, brows furrowed. Why, exactly, was he standing in a sunny meadow?

The bright light engulfed them both, and before Olxik knew it she felt as if she were tumbling down, down, down into a bright white light. She was blinded until her feet hit the ground softly, feeling the smooth, soft ground. She opened her eyes and was greeted by the vast, flat expansion of a flat surface that seemed like... a book? She looked down at her feet to see a soft watercolor picture of a meadow. And when she looked up, there she was, standing in a glorious meadow with the very real sensation of sunlight on her face. Exi was in her hands, and Raph was by her side as well.

His nostrils flared as he took in the scenery, amber eyes darting from side to side in suspicion, muscles tense in case he was attacked. What was this place, and how did he get here?
Then there was a flash of light and Olxik appeared next to him, and he skittered sideways several feet in surprise. He pretended to be admiring whatever tree this had brought him near, trying to cover it up, though his lip was drawn partly away from his teeth with displeasure.

Raph's sudden skittering toward a tree caught Olxik a littl off guard. "I think we're okay, Raph! Everything feels so real!" Off in the distance there was a slight humming sound, nonthreatening and aloof. Olxik turned, but just barely caught the glimpse of a yellow form disappearing off the path. She thought she had heard something to the effect of... oh bother?
Olxik jumped over to Raph and extended a hand. "Did you see that, Raph? I think someone's here! Let's go say hi!"

He ignored the helping hand and straightened, glancing after the disappearing figure with nostrils flared, trying to identify it. It wasn't a Heartless, at least.
He looked back at her and shook his head slightly, brows furrowed. Why in all the cosmos would they do that? They had more pressing matters to attend to! He gestured at the meadow around them, then pointed upward with a questioning expression. Hadn't they fallen? Where were they? And, perhaps most importantly, how were they getting back out?

Olxik shrugged. "I dunno! Exi thinks Turtie could help us out eventually. He's probably right. Or maybe that thing knows!" She pointed over to the yellow creature that had walked off into the distance. Really, that was the only thing on her mind right now.
She didn't even bother to wait for Raph. "Wait up!" she cried to the stranger. As she approached the horizon, there was another flash of light. She suddenly found herself in front of a rickety little house built into a tree.

He scowled and let her go, casting around for a rope or a ladder or something he could use to climb back up with. Certainly she was capable of looking after herself, since she went out on solo missions all the time - as long as she stayed in scent range, he didn't mind.
That is, until her scent abruptly and entirely vanished in the blink of an eye. Though he didn't take this place to have much in the way of danger, it did have a habit of sucking people in and trapping them; even if she hadn't been waylaid by an enemy, she had either found the way out or been taken somewhere else. He didn't like the idea of her completely disappearing - and with concern, raced in the direction she had gone. He reached the end of the clearing, heading toward the woods, when there was a bright flash and suddenly he was very deep into the trees - as though he'd skipped the boring parts and gone right to the plot setting - and he skidded to a halt to find himself facing a rather small dwelling built into the base of a mighty oak. His eyes lit on Olxik and he relaxed, shoving his hands into his pockets and glancing around. Was the tree healthy with that absurd little house built into it? His eyes followed the branches to their extremities, passing over verdant leaf and shiny acorn. No, the tree was healthy, and the house only used it for shelter and support. The whole forest was hale and green, with a scent of liveliness he didn't much get to appreciate on the Husk, out in the middle of space. He inhaled deeply, eyes closing with pleasure.
Now, what were they doing again? Right, Olxik was running off and they were trapped in a book and hadn't there been a wee yellow beastie running amok?
